HISTORIAN'S CORNER by Jim O'Loughlin

PWWA meetings in the nineties:
The nineties meetings started appropriately with a March presentation about the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake followed by a June discussion of the 1990 drought.

Other programs dealt with desalination, radio, cathodic protection, EBMUD update,
SFPUC year of transitions, portable water systems, meter revenue recovery, financial planning, government waste, THM in water, and Hetch Hetchy maintenance.

On the sports side we were entertained by a talk about the San Jose Sharks Ice Hockey team, an update on the Bay Meadows Race Track, football coach John Ralston, 49ers legend RC Owens, a discussion of the SF Giants new Pac Bell ball park, and San Jose Sharks radio announcer Dan Rusanowski.

Nineties tours included the Quazite Corp., behind the scenes at Great America,
San Jose Water Company's SCADA system, Calif Water Service's new lab & engineering facilities, and San Francisco's portable water supply system.

Dinner meeting prices continued to rise from $19.00 to a high of $27.00.
